Anal Fissure

Anal fissure is a tear in the anal mucosa. Like hemroids, it is caused by passage of hard stools in the presence of genetic predisposition. Symptoms include severe pain with the passage of stools associated with itching and bleeding. Sometimes, anal fissure exists at the same time with hemroids in the same patient. Also like hemroids, anal fissure is treated mainly by conservative medical treatment, which cures most cases, with surgical treatment reserved to non-responding cases. Surgery consists of cutting a small portion of the internal anal sphincter and excision of the fissure.
