Hemroids symptoms are not present in every case of hemroid i.e. many cases are asymptomatic. What are the hemroids symptoms that when happen to you, you should suspect that you may have hemroids?
In general, the most common hemroids symptoms are rectal bleeding with bowel movements, rectal itching, and rectal pain. However, hemroids symptoms differ according to the type of hemroids; internal or external.
External hemroids symptoms:
The most common symptom of external hemroids is rectal pain. Also, blood may collect under the skin froming a hard, tender and painful mass.
Internal hemroids symptoms:
- Rectal bleeding during or after a bowel movement is the most common symptom of internal hemroid. It should be noted that the blood of hemroids is always bright red in color. Dark red or black blood is never due to hemroids and is usually caused by a more serious problem.
- Rectal itching and skin irritation. It is caused by irritation of the anal skin by mucus secreted from internal hemroids.
- Rectal discomfort. It occurs in the form of a feeling of urge to pass stools after bowel motion. This is caused by bulging of the hemroids through the anal canal. The larger the mass, the greater the discomfort.
- Rectal pain. In contrast to external hemroids, internal hemroids are usually painless, unless the mass is huge in size. If pain is present in internal hemroids, it is usually mild to moderate, severe pain should arise the possibility of strangulated hemroids due to interruption of the blood supply. This is one of the medical emergencies and seeking medical advice should not be delayed.
- Anal leakage. In internal hemroids, if they become prolapsed, they may cause anal leakage and soiling.
